05 Oct Leatherheads Event with Taylor Zarzour and Greg McElroy
By: Helen Sowell
Last week Leatherhead members were treated to a personal reception with Sirius Radio college football analysts Taylor Zarzour and Greg McElroy. The casual gathering at Charlotte Country Club afforded attendees an opportunity to chat with Taylor and Gred who hosts The First Team with weekday mornings from 7:00-10:00 on SiriusXM College Sports Nation Channel 91.
Many Charlotteans are familiar with Zarzour from his co-hosting stint on WFNZ sports radio The Drive. With 14 years of radio hosting experience, when Sirius came calling he jumped at the chance to be on a national stage. Pairing him with McElroy, a former quarterback who led the Crimson Tide of Alabama to a 14-0 undefeated season and a National Championship his junior year (2010), offers a unique blend of insight and analysis. McElroy brings a player’s perspective to the show having played PeeWee football until he left the gridiron and the Cincinnati Bengals in 2014.
Taylor also does PGA golf events as well as calling weekly college football games. Both live in Charlotte with their families and are excited about the sports community and upcoming events, and are certainly are throwing their support behind the Dr Pepper ACC Championship Game and the Belk Bowl.
As Taylor put it, “the Belk Bowl airing at 3:30 on December 30 in the middle of the post-Christmas week is a plum slot….everybody needs and wants to get out of the house, get away from relatives. I’m really excited about that game and the city should be as well.”
It was a special evening for members as both were approachable, perspective and funny. They answered plenty of questions, offered some predictions about the College Football Playoff and in general entertained the group with their banter and smarts.
